Rush Mothers’ Milk Club
receives GRANT from the
Family Larsson Rosenquist Foundation
The Rush Mothers’ Milk Club has received funding from the Family Larsson Rosenquist Foundation to create an evidence-based toolkit that translates the evidence about human milk and lactation in the neonatal intensive care into materials for use in clinical practice. This compilation of materials will include written and electronic information sheets and short-subject “how-to” videos for NICU staff and families. The Family Larsson Rosenquist foundation plans to use these materials in train-the-trainer programs throughout the world, with a specific focus on NICUs in India and Africa. The Rush Mothers’ Milk Club will also integrate selected content into addendum materials that are applicable for NICUs in the US and other countries. Dr. Meier, the principal investigator for this project and director for lactation services in the Rush NICU, reports:
We are so excited with this opportunity! The FLRF funding allows us to create a state-of-the art set of materials to guide NICU practices and educate NICU families about improving the use of human milk for premature and other at-risk infants. Our translational research/clinical program is ideally suited to design these tools, and we will use our existing focus on educating both the NICU care providers and the NICU families to optimize high-dose, long-exposure to mothers’ own milk for this vulnerable population.
The Family Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation is an independent, charitable organization founded in an effort to fulfil the family’s vision of a world in which every child is granted an optimum start in life through the benefits of breast milk. Founded in 2013 and based in Zug, Switzerland, it is the only foundation worldwide with prime focus on promoting and supporting breastfeeding and breast milk.
